Botulinum Toxin (Botox)
What Is Botulinum Toxin (Botox)?
Botulin Toxin or wrinkle relaxing treatment (known as Botox) for lines and wrinkles is very popular and well known treatment is highly effective at softening fine lines and wrinkles in the upper part of the face, lips, jaw line and neck, leaving a more refreshed youthful appearance.
Why do lines and wrinkles develop?
Ageing is associated with the development of wrinkles, which are often unwanted and distressing.
Wrinkles develop over time due to the loss of collagen in the skin after repeated use of the facial muscles and these become permanent lines and deep furrows.
The effects of sun damage, smoking and stress can exacerbate the problem.

What can I expect?
Is Botulin Toxin safe?
This treatment has been used safely on over 1 million people worldwide for more than 11 years and still remains the most popular of all cosmetic treatments due to its exceptional success rate.
It is a prescription only medication and should only be administered by an appropriately trained medical practitioner to ensure that the correct amount of treatment used is specific to each individuals need.
Correctly performed treatment will leave the face with normal expression but with a more relaxed and youthful appearance.
Is the treatment painful?
The treatment involves a small number of carefully placed injections to accurately target the muscles we wish to affect.
We use very fine needles; most people tolerate the treatment well and do not require any topical anesthesia (numbing cream).
How long does it take?
We normally book an appointment for 30 mints but the treatment itself takes no longer than 10-15 minutes.
How will I look when I leave the clinic?
Immediately after treatment there may be small bumps and redness which usually resolve by the time you leave the clinic. It is very rare to get a small bruise.
The beneficial effect of the treatment is usually seen 2-3 days later however it may take 7 to 10 days.
Full effect will be by 2 weeks and this is when we will book your follow up appointment to review the results. Top ups are some times necessary.
How long will the effects of botulin toxin last?
On average, your treatment will last between 3 and 6 months. In majority of the cases people will require a top up at around 4 months.
Once I have had treatment and it wears off, will I look worse than I did before?
No. Botulinum toxin will temporarily rest the muscles and prevent them from moving the overlying skin.
Once the treatment wears off, you will go back to looking the same as you did before treatment. In fact, by not being able to crease the skin, you are actually preventing the wrinkles from deepening.
Botulin toxin can be used as a preventative treatment in your 20’s and 30’s to prevent lines and wrinkles appearing in the first place.
